Advancing ADRD Research

For over 20 years, the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) has been a cornerstone of progress in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) research. As the centralized hub for the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers (ADRCs), NACC provides the infrastructure, data resources, and collaborative platforms that empower researchers to unravel the complexities of ADRD. Through its unwavering commitment to innovation, standardization, and data accessibility, NACC has profoundly influenced the field in ways that directly contribute to advancing science, improving care, and shaping public health policy.

Legacy of Excellence and Innovation

NACC’s enduring impact on ADRD research is a reflection of its dedication to empowering researchers, enabling collaboration, and advancing the frontiers of science. By providing the tools, infrastructure, and vision needed to tackle the complexities of Alzheimer’s and related dementias, NACC continues to shape a future where innovation leads to better outcomes for individuals, families, and communities affected by these devastating diseases.

Enabling High-Impact Research

Enabling High-Impact Research

NACC’s mission centers around its extensive database, which is one of the largest collections of longitudinal clinical, cognitive, imaging, and biomarker data on ADRD. By harmonizing data across ADRCs and making it accessible to researchers globally, NACC has facilitated groundbreaking studies on disease progression, genetic risk factors, and emerging therapies.

Standardizing Data Collection Across ADRCs

Standardizing Data Collection Across ADRCs

NACC has been essential in standardizing data collection with the Uniform Data Set (UDS), ensuring consistency and reliability across ADRC participants in the U.S. The launch of UDS version 4 (UDSv4) includes new elements like social determinants of health and advanced biomarker data, enhancing research alignment. This standardization allows for meaningful comparisons, shared insights, and accelerated discoveries.

Multimodal Discoveries

Accelerating Multimodal Discoveries

NACC has enhanced its data platform to include various data types, such as neuroimaging, fluid biomarkers, genetics, and digital biomarkers. This integration allows researchers to gain a comprehensive understanding of ADRD progression and etiology. Tools like the SCAN Initiative, which offers standardized PET and MRI imaging data, along with partnerships with NIAGADS and NCRAD, have strengthened NACC's role in interdisciplinary discoveries.

Fostering Collaboration and Innovation

Fostering Collaboration and Innovation

Collaboration is central to NACC’s impact. Through biannual ADRC meetings, webinars, and the ADRC Program Community Forum, NACC connects clinicians, scientists, and administrators to share ideas and tackle challenges. This unified research ecosystem amplifies the collective efforts of ADRCs, advancing their mission to improve lives.

Next Generation Researchers

Empowering the Next Generation of Researchers

NACC emphasizes training future leaders in ADRD research through the Research Education Component (REC) and collaborations with organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, equipping early-career investigators with essential tools and networks for tackling research challenges.
